Sunday Morning Class

Lesson 3 of 10 July 28, 2025

The class began with a reminder that evangelism requires both boldness and authenticity, using John the Baptist’s confrontations with the Pharisees as a model for speaking truth to those questioning their faith. The teacher then linked this to Jesus’ baptism and His victory over Satan’s temptations, pointing out that Scripture provides practical examples for overcoming personal doubts. Transitioning to the core of the lesson, the instructor examined Matthew 4:18‑22, where Jesus called the first four apostles. He highlighted three key observations: Jesus calls ordinary people right where they are, the call itself is simple—"Follow Me"—and the response is immediate, showing that no special qualifications are needed. These truths were applied to modern evangelism, encouraging members to share their own conversion stories and to invite friends to explore the Gospel together, rather than relying on exhaustive theological arguments. The class concluded with a prayer for confidence and growth in personal witness, urging participants to see themselves as everyday "fishers of people" just as the first disciples were.

Matthew 4:18-22

As he was walking along the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who was called Peter) and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. "Follow me," he said, "and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee, their father, preparing their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him.
