Book of Hebrews

Lesson 5 of 10 May 20, 2018

During the class, Charles White examined Hebrews, emphasizing the dual nature of the epistle—its encouraging promises and its serious admonitions. He explained that the author’s confidence in Christ’s blood grants believers access to God’s holy presence, both now in daily worship and specifically when we pray. By referencing the tearing of the temple veil in Matthew, White illustrated how Jesus’ sacrifice opened the way for believers to approach God directly. The discussion then turned to Hebrews 10:25‑27 and related verses, interpreting “the day drawing near” as the anticipated return of Christ rather than a weekly meeting or the historical destruction of Jerusalem. White encouraged the class to hold fast to their confession, draw near to God, and actively encourage one another in love and good works, lest they abandon fellowship as the day approaches. The session concluded with a prayer and a reminder to live confidently in the assurance of Christ’s completed work.

Hebrews 10:19-22

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:35-39

Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what is promised. For yet in a little while, the one who is coming will come and will not delay; but my righteousness will be revealed as the one who is coming, and my salvation as the one who is coming. And he will bring salvation to the ends of the earth.
