Teen Class – Tom Condos

Lesson 18 of 21 October 15, 2023

The class opened with an interactive “choosing sides” exercise, inviting students to physically position themselves between extremes of good and bad on a whiteboard. By using everyday preferences—ice cream flavors, cats, rainy days, beaches, and chores—the teacher demonstrated that even seemingly neutral choices require a stance, setting the stage for deeper moral exploration. The discussion then moved to more serious ethical questions, such as whether it is ever right to punch someone, the complexities of honesty versus lying, the morality of stealing for survival, and the appropriateness of anger, jealousy, and murder. Throughout, the teacher referenced Scripture, particularly 1 Kings 11:9, to illustrate God’s unwavering standards. Students examined each scenario, sharing personal reasoning and considering biblical principles. The session concluded with a reminder that handling temptation involves aligning one’s heart with Christ’s teachings, encouraging teens to apply these truths in their daily lives.
