How to become Intimate with Jesus

Lesson 6 of 17 July 23, 2017

The teacher presented a biblical exploration of intimacy with Jesus Christ, contrasting superficial knowledge with genuine relational closeness. Using the analogy of knowing about a public figure versus knowing a spouse intimately, he illustrated that while many believe in God as a supreme being worthy of respect, God desires much more—a close, personal, and affectionate relationship with His people. He emphasized that Jesus came into the world specifically to make God known and to enable humanity to experience intimate connection with the Father. Through John 1:14 and 1:18, he explained that Jesus is God incarnate, the Word made flesh, who reveals God's character and heart to us. The teacher then shifted to John 14, where Jesus challenged Philip about not yet truly knowing Him despite witnessing His miracles and teachings for an extended time. This prompted the central question: How well do we really know Jesus, and how intimate is our relationship with Him? The teacher outlined three key dimensions of intimacy with Christ that would structure the lesson: understanding friendship with Jesus and what it means biblically, experiencing the joy that Jesus desires to give His followers, and becoming reflections of His light to others in the world around us.

John 1:1-3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:18

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
