Intelligent Design - Teleological Argument - Dave Miller

Lesson 4 of 21 October 16, 2021

Teacher Dave Miller presented the teleological argument—the philosophical case that design in nature demonstrates the existence of God. Miller began by acknowledging that many people reject this evidence not because it lacks credibility but because they refuse to accept God's authority. He then walked through multiple examples from nature that exhibit sophisticated design impossible to explain through random evolution. The bacterial flagellar motor served as the primary example: a microscopic motor containing twenty proteins, rotating at 20,000 RPMs with nearly 100% energy conversion efficiency—capabilities that humans with advanced technology cannot replicate. Miller presented additional examples including the lodgepole pine, whose seeds remain sealed by resin until released by forest fire, and the dandelion, whose aerodynamically designed seeds disperse with perfect efficiency. He noted that scientists often study and mimic these natural designs without crediting God as the Creator. Throughout the class, Miller emphasized that God has deliberately placed evidence of His existence throughout creation but does not force belief; rather, He leaves humanity responsible to recognize and respond to the design evidence available to all. The fundamental issue, he argued, is not intellectual but spiritual—the human resistance to submission to God.

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
