Norman Atchison - Manuelito Children's Home - Linder Road

Lesson 6 of 16 May 1, 2019

Norman Atchison presented an inspiring account of Manuelito Navajo Children's Home, a ministry serving children in need near the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. Atchison explained the severe socioeconomic conditions affecting the Navajo community, including high unemployment rates, widespread poverty, contaminated water sources, and significant alcohol abuse issues. The children's home began as a simple Navajo mission with two cinder block buildings but was transformed by the Gallup Church of Christ in the late 1950s when they took over the work. Atchison's father, Bernie, was invited to help and eventually became superintendent for 25 years, building the ministry into what it is today. The presentation featured the remarkable story of how God provided 27.5 acres of property through faithful prayer and community giving, allowing the home to expand and serve more children effectively. Atchison shared personal testimonies and photographs documenting the home's growth, including three cottages for residential care, a clothing room that addresses immediate needs, food drives organized by dedicated staff, and job training shops. The home currently cares for 20 children under the supervision of house parents and relief staff, demonstrating how a small, faithful response to God's call can create lasting impact in a vulnerable community.
